Winterfun in Ahr valley

Winter in Valle Aurina: Skiing at Speikboden & Klausberg

Amazing fun on the slopes

Spicy clear mountain air, an unspoilt natural landscape in the Valle Aurina, the ski area Speikboden and lots of snow. In the northernmost valley of South Tyrol, winter sports fans and those seeking peace and quiet get their money's worth.

Off to the slopes

Here we go with the skiing holiday. Apart from Lutago itself and within a radius of only 10 kilometres there are two Valle Aurina ski resorts. Perfectly groomed slopes meet fresh powder snow, rapid descents and cosy huts. The ski area Speikboden with its famous downhill runs is only 3 kilometres away. The family-friendly ski area Klausberg is within ten minutes car. Kronplatz, 25 km away, can also be easily reached by car or ski bus.

A magical winter in Valle Aurina
Winter Wonder Land

The winter season in Valle Aurina has endless highlights to offer.
Have fun browsing through the Fronza insider tips!

Sauna in the mountains
Sauna in the mountains

How about a sauna session high on a mountain? This is possible with the mountain igloos on the Speikboden. Sweat it out and enjoy the view. Who does not want that? Every week in winter, according to the motto “Sauna is better outside”, a sauna stay with a panoramic view of over 2,000 m awaits you.

“Gewo Krippilan schaugn?”
Nativity scene museum

This question in the Valle Aurina dialect (in German “Are we going to see the nativity scenes?”) is heard all the time in Lutago during the Christmas season. And there are plenty of nativity scenes to see in the “Maranatha” folk art and nativity scene museum in Lutago, just a few minutes’ walk from Fronza. Oriental mangers, alpine mangers or very modern examples: here you can admire all kinds of nativity scenes and follow the development of this cultural asset over the centuries. A great experience.

A Christmas market with a difference
Christmas market

Would you like to combine a pre-Christmas atmosphere, some exercise in the fresh air and a great nature experience? This is possible on the Advent weekends at the “Taufra Advent” in Sand in Taufers. A nativity scene exhibition, a short hike through the winter forest with many pleasant light installations and at the end a small Christmas market in a wildly romantic place. How about a cup of mulled wine at the foot of the famous Reiner waterfalls?

Winter wonders of water and ice
Reinbach falls

Visiting waterfalls is always an impressive experience. Also and especially in winter, when they are partly frozen into ice. The Reinbach falls behind Sand in Taufers or the Pojer waterfall near Lutago are definitely worth a visit in winter. The Reinbach Falls are three waterfalls that the stream from the Reintal has to overcome to get into the Ahr. All three are easy to reach and easily accessible with paths, some of which are suitable for pushchairs. The Pojen waterfall can be easily observed directly from the valley, but can also be reached via a well-developed hiking trail.

On the trail of mining in Valle Aurina
Museum of Mining

At the two locations in Prettau and in Steinhaus, the South Tyrolean Museum of Mining recalls a glorious chapter of the Valle Aurina past. At the Steinhaus site there is a lot to learn about the everyday life and the lives of the miners, the other servants and their families. Good luck!

Heilig Geist in winter
Heilig Geist in winter

When the meadows behind Kasern and the mountain peaks of the surrounding 3,000 m peaks lie under a thick blanket of snow, then the valley floor of the rearmost Valle Aurina is particularly suitable for a winter walk to the Heilig Geist Chapel. By the way, the local trail also attracts numerous cross-country skiing fans to this place of power with guaranteed snow.

Snow fun

The nature around Lutago has much more to offer in winter beyond the ski areas. You can go on snowshoe hikes and ski tours through the snow-covered forests of the Valle Aurina, explore romantic winter hiking trails, toboggan or cross-country skiing with the whole family. A total of 51 kilometres of cross-country trails run through the Valle Aurina. Then relax in the Fronza wellness area.
